Fun for Everyone
Every year we have in-library contests, like "Find the Shark," Reader of the Week, Riddle of the Week, Mystery of the Week and the annual guessing jar (which is full of shells this year). Stop in to see if you can win a prize! For the end of the season, we will have a dunk tank at the Diane Michael's H2O Show on August 3rd! Ask all the teachers you know if they will let you dunk them!Fun for Preschoolers
- Preschool Players - Wednesdays, July 14-28 Preschool Players is a play acting group for children ages 4 and 5. There are three weekly afternoon rehearsals and an evening performance. The children participating learn parts of a short play to perform for their families and friends. All costumes are provided and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to the evening performance. Register by July 7th. Limit 15.

Family Fun
- Movie Nights - Wednesdays, June 23, July 7, July 21 - 7pm Join us for Alice in Wonderland (Rated PG) (was originally scheduled as Surf's Up), Finding Nemo (Rated G), and The Water Horse (Rated PG). Movies begin at 7pm. Feel free to bring your own snacks. We will provide popcorn. No registration required.
- Evening Family Story Times - Wednesdays 6:30-8:30pm - June 30 (Beach Vacation) - July 14 (Sunken Treasure) CANCELED. Due to low enrollment we have cancelled this series. We will be offering the Sunken Treasure Story Time on July 14th in the afternoon instead.
Fun for School-Age Kids
- Lunch Bunch - Thursdays in July 12:00-1:30pm Bring a sack lunch and eat while you listen to a couple of chapters from Dick King-Smith's The Water Horse each week. Find out what happens when a young Scottish girl and her brother discover a mysterious egg on the beach after a storm and it hatches into a lovable sea monster. We'll have dessert for you and then some fun games to play and crafts to make after we eat. Lunch Bunch meets five times. This program is great for kids entering 1st thorugh 5th grades. Register for the series or individual days by June 30. Limit 15.
- Wii Games Fridays - June 18-July 23 - 1:00PM Join us for Wii gaming every Friday all summer! No registration necessary. All games TBA.
Fun for Middle Schoolers and Teens
- Battle of the Books - Black Earth Library vs. Mazo Library- Friday, July 30 Fifth through eighth grade readers can form teams of 2-4 members to represent Black Earth or Mazo libraries in the second annual Summer Battle of the Books. Black Earth is hungry for a victory after last year's defeat to Mazo! Win great prizes! Register individually or as teams by June 30th to get your list of the eight books.
- Online Teen Book Club Blog about your summer reading when you join the teen book discussion club. Up to 52 libraries may be participating. Librarians will moderate the discussion and e-mail addresses will not be displayed. The discussion will be available June and July, possibly going into August. Check http://teenread.scls.info/ for more information.
