Fri., Aug. 3 Mon., Aug. 6 Manhunt: The Twelve Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson
Manhunt by James L. Swanson Book cover

April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth assassinated Lincoln.  Swanson conjures up an exhausted yet jubilant nation ruptured by grief, stunned by tragedy and hell-bent on revenge. For 12 days, Booth relied on smarts, stealth and luck to elude the best detectives, military officers and local police the federal government could muster. Taking the reader into the action, the story is shot through with breathless, vivid detail. With a deft, probing style, Swanson, a member of the Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, has crafted pure narrative pleasure, sure to satisfy the casual reader and Civil War aficionado alike.Copyright © Reed Business Information

Fri., Sept. 7 Mon., Sept. 3 The Closers Michael Connelly
Closers by Michael Connelly book cover

LAPD detective Harry Bosch is back on the force after a two-year retirement. Assigned to the cold case unit and teamed with former partner Kiz Rider, Harry's first case back involves the killing of a high school girl 17 years before, reopened because of a DNA match to blood found on the murder gun. The pair explore the "ripples" of the long ago crime, how it has destroyed the young girl's family—leaving the mother trapped in the past and plunging the father into a nightmare of homelessness and drink—and how it drives Rider, and especially Bosch, into deeper understanding of their own purposes in life.
